Spring Training Yoga Workshop w/Allison Egan Datwani and Loren Abrams

Bunnies, fresh grass and pastel colors will show up in the next weeks as we plant seeds, clean as well as balance our warrior get out and get them spirit with being a kid again and having fun outdoors. Finding balance is a key theme to finding overall health especially when the seasons change from winter's slower hibernation mode to springs upbeat rhythm. Haven't you noticed invitations to do this and that are piling up and feelings of "How will I get everything done?" are surfacing within you?

To ease and guide our embrace to all that is growing into our lives during the light half of the year, I will be leading a Spring Training Yoga Workshop with Loren Abrams at www.bamboomovesyoga.com in Palisades Park, NJ    Saturday   April 18th   at 2pm.

In this workshop we will:

Have fun as we move through a mindful vinyasa yoga flow geared toward preparing our body into three spring like rooted and blossoming postures:

Svargadvidasana/Bird of Paradise Pose (shown below)

*Eka Pada Koundinyasana 2/One Legged Arm Balance for Koundinya 2

*Parivrtta Surya Yantrasana/Compass Pose

Svargadvidasana/Bird of Paradise Pose

We will also experience how these complex postures can be broken down so all can follow. Here we can attune to each posture's grounded and growing qualities thus further aligning us to exactly what is happening in nature as spring bursts forth.

We will sit in these postures with props like the wall, bolsters, blankets, belts and blocks so we can feel where to let go in the pose as well as where to fire up our energy so we experience the healing benefits of these postures.

You will receive plenty of hands on adjustments.

Finally we will finish in relaxing restorative yoga postures to renew our energy while being guided deeper into connecting to our energy body for profound healing and rest.

*Pictures for these postures are coming up on the blog. Follow me on Facebook as Allison Egan Datwani, Instagram @allisonegandatwani and/or Twitter @DatwaniEgan for tips and videos on how to get into these postures and more.

Welcome Spring by Melting Like Snow

Vasisthasana/Side Plank Pose, Sweater and leggings www.zara.com gloves www.wholefoods.com riding boots www.ninewest.com

Where I live most of the snow has melted. Most mornings I'm reaching for my bulky sweaters vs. a winter coat as I go out and on with my day. There's a feeling of cleansing and shedding on many levels during spring's arrival. The idea of rinsing and renewing is not to say what we are getting rid of is bad, rather it was necessary when we were in hibernation mode. Now and going forward into spring we simply don't need so much armor as a defense. It's time to get out more often to exercise, socialize and discover. Like a daffodil bulb that's been asleep deep in the earth, the melted snow's moister soil lets the bulb's hard outer shell soften and take off a few layers so it can shoot up to the sun's light and blossom.

Similar to the leftover snow on the sides of the road that will soon turn into water, be prepared to move and flow with spring's new and upbeat rhythm. As always there will be some unexpected twists and turns to take that only water can do graciously.

Enlighten Your Arms Special Spring Equinox Yoga Class

Strengthen your wings and boost your confidence with me this Friday March 20th at 6:30pm at my Enlighten Your Arms Special Spring Equinox Yoga class at Bamboomoves Yoga in Englewood, NJ. Here I will guide you through an easy to follow mindful vinyasa yoga flow geared toward arm balancing plus neck and shoulder restoration. When you rest your hands down onto the ground and lift your lower body off the floor to take flight, like a child you will reclaim amazement in what you can do if you just give it a try. We will balance our precision work and effort by resting and renewing in restorative yoga postures.

I've also collected great music into a playlist to coax us deeper as we usher spring in together during March 20th's New Moon and Solar Eclipse. It will be a great celebration!

Please visit www.bamboomovesyoga.com in Englewood for more details and to pre register for the class.

Style Watch: Color Pop

For the in between days, balance winter's black styling with a pop of vibrant spring color. Now is the time to check out the last of winter's sales. You will find bright and unwanted from the depths of winter pieces like this daffodil yellow sweater I picked up last week. This chunky knit sweater will be great during spring's cold days and summer's cool nights on the beach.

When you wear brights be sure to elongate your look with a solid color like black, grey, navy, brown or beige. Also adding a printed scarf keeps you warm when you need it plus adds dimension to your look.

Nesting

Tiriang Mukhottanasana/Intense Backbend Stretch Prep.

March is about changing. A time when winter stops and spring begins. That urge, that knowing, that fire in your belly that started kicking within you during early February wants to be set free and move on out this month. To make room for winter's plotting and planning, a little nesting to purify yourself and space is necessary to receive spring's new energy.

Start small by getting rid of and giving away what you didn't wear and will never wear again from your winter closet. On another day get your car washed and bring your boots and purses to your local shoe repair shop if they need a touch up. The following week go through your kitchen cabinets and make a soup with left over dried beans and noodles that are taking up space in half used boxes. Plus picking up a broom and sweeping those dust bunnies and crumbs out is always welcome in the kitchen.

Notice an adrenaline rush moving through your system as you do your tasks. Is it that what you're creating for 2015 feels possible and that's fueling you? Each time you accomplish a step in your spring cleaning list of things to do, feel a release of energy. You're not alone in processing and releasing the excitement of nurturing your newest creation. Birds, bunnies and pregnant Moms are doing the same right about now.
