Want What You Have

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City during Christmas Eve.

During this Christmas holiday season I haven't been feeling as prepared or I hate to admit as perfect in my eyes as I was in the past as a hostess, gift giver, Xmas decor styler, baker and more. With less tinsel, lights and gifts to be wrapped this year, I'm actively working on embracing the sweet sentiment of seeing what I already have... my health, family, friends, endless walks along the river plus an abundance of opportunities to share what I love in the New Year, my practice. This is my life and these are my gifts.

If any of this resonates with you, take the time to sit and be still during this end of the year holiday week and notice what you have enough of. Sure there's pieces to life's puzzle that you could sure see yourself having right now but ask yourself "Is it absolutely necessary?" When you are done reflecting, take 3 deep breaths and give thanks for what you have before you move on.

Ritual: Winter Solstice Special Class at Bamboomoves Englewood

Dreaming like a sleeping bear.

Seeing everything through owl eyes.

Breathing in new air.

Though the land appears asleep, deep down there's a magnificent process of incubative growth taking place.

As the winter holidays approach it is easy to get cranky and lost in the obligations of the season. Try to remember the joy of giving by also giving to yourself. Please join me tomorrow night, Fri. Dec. 18th at 6pm for my Winter Solstice Candlelight Yoga Flow special class at Bamboomoves Yoga Englewood. Here we will shut off our phones, turn off the lights, light candles and attune to the introspective yin energies the longest nights of the year offers by practicing yoga, meditation and intention setting for the next turn of the year's wheel.

This practice is suitable for all levels.

Winter Solstice Candlelit Yoga Flow Fri. Dec.18th 6pm @Bamboomoves Yoga Englewood

The year's longest night of darkness is the Winter's Solstice. After this night the sun slowly grows in strength as each day passes. As we sit in the darkest time of the year, the Winter Solstice carries the promise of light and hope for the New Year ahead. It is a perfect time to get clear on what you wish to attract in 2016.

In this special class we will:

Move through a candlelit yoga flow which is designed to physically strengthen and stretch our 3rd chakra. It is our sun energy center which is found within the belly, side waist and lower back. The third chakra is the energy center from which yogis suggest your knowing of yourself, your gut instinct and personal power is born. It is the area from which your New Year's dreams are realized.

Here we will reflect on whether your desires come from your own truth or the voices of others in your head.

Realize how a clear mind can nourish and maintain a healthy body.

Learn 5 techniques you can practice today to keep your dreams coming towards you while still living in the moment.

This special class is designed to fit all levels.

Holiday Grounding Ritual

Grounding in virasasana wearing www.wooden-ships.com ethically made sweater from www.marialuisaboutique.com

With Thanksgiving behind us, the end of the year holiday celebrations are in full swing. My habit of making lists of things to do loves this time of year yet my mostly *vata dosha self flies on the wind like a dried up brown leaf if I don't do grounding rituals throughout the day.

A simple grounding ritual you can practice anytime is to visualize your roots growing deep into the earth. This can be easy to imagine especially now that the trees have lost their leaves. Just imagine their bare branches that are reaching skyward flipped upside down and rooting down into the earth underneath your feet if you're standing or under your sitting bones if you're sitting.

Close your mouth and deepen your breath through your nose. Focus on your breath gently lifting you as you inhale and grounding you deeper into the earth as you exhale. As you breathe see this energy within your body growing in strength. Envision your roots spreading wide and deep. Be with the earth's grounding energy as long as possible. You can do this for a minute or two while standing online at a store, sitting at a coffee shop or longer at home or outdoors.
